Posterjack

I'm always on the hunt for cheap art for my house (isn't everyone?).  Since repainting my house this past weekend, we started hanging art around the house the other night.  Some of the pieces I bought awhile ago, just weren't working anywhere.  Now I need (ok, WANT more than NEED), some other pieces to fill some blank walls. But we have no budget for art. Enter: cheap art.  Ok, so cheap still has a price tag, but it's a lot more reasonable than our other options.  Maybe I can take some unique photos soon, and use Posterjack.ca.  I read about Posterjack via Style at Home Blog and it sounds wonderful.  A Canadian company (always a plus to find a local!), you can get a 24"x36" photo printed for around $24 (correction, $19 sale right now!!), and have a 8x12 photo printed & framed for around $30.  A company that can blow up your images and still look good??  I think I might be checking them out in the near future....Frames are usually an easy find (enter Ikea....)

Escape the City Life....

Ever dream of escaping the hustle and bustle of City life and secluding yourself (and your hubby!) in some far off place, with no phone, no internet, and no plans to do anything?  I could really use that kind of a vacation right now (preferably in a warm area so we can lounge in the sun), and I KNOW my hubby could use that too.  Wouldn't this be the perfect place to disconnect from the technology of today? (just as long as it comes with running water [and preferably electricity, although I could be persuaded to forego that requirement], I could get away from everything else.....)

It just seems like such a serene place. Imagine writing at the desk, overlooking a sunny (warm) day and the reflection of the sun on the lake out front.....ah....serenity.

Style at Home: 25 Favorite Interiors

Since yesterday's post was about an article from Style at Home magazine and featured an Ikea kitchen, I was going to blog about how amazing an Ikea kitchen can actually be....but that will have to wait for another post.  Instead, I came across their 25 Favorite Interiors of 2010 and I thought I'd share with you my favorites of those (I ended up loving more than expected, so there might be a few pictures....)
This dressing room is my absolute favorite.  Maybe because I dream that one day I will have a house large enough to have a room solely dedicated to my morning primping.  Afterall, I do need a lot of storage space for my plentiful array of Escada perfumes (can't choose just one), my professional hair product stock (as my hairstylist sister in law has moved out of the country for a year, I had to stock up on supplies!), my make up, blowdryer, flat iron, curling iron, etc etc... you get the point...there's a lot of "stuff"!!!

I think I'm so drawn to this one because it reminds me of one of my favorite bathrooms (again, by Sarah Richardson...found here).  I love the tile, the clean lines, the modern vanity, and the wall sconces....

If I were to live in a loft, this is how I'd want it to be, urban & rustic!! I love the exposed natural brick!

I love tufting and nailhead studs...and this headboard has both!! Not to mention the bed has one of my favorite colors (purple!), and yet isn't oververtly "girly".

I like this bathroom simply for the fact that it shows that you really can put a chandelier anywhere...

I love the bold striped wallpaper, and the additional storage.  I think I may want to steal the little ladder idea when we go to finish our basement bath!

I'm not normally all for the traditional look, but one traditional element I do LOVE (and can be mixed with modern elements -- such as this blue wall color) is wainscoting.  If we had walls that defined our entrance or dining area (where we could "stop" the wainscoting), we'd be all over this in our house!

Again, I'm not all for traditional stuff, but one place to do it (and do it all out!) is in the dining room. The wall panels look AMAZING and add a touch of class and elegance to any room.

A combination of white, tufting AND nailheads?!? Are you kidding me?!?! This just shouts my name!!!

Style at Home: Modern Bistro

When my (new!) subscription to Style at Home magazine arrived last month, I was excited to see a DAMASK kitchen (as you all know how much I LOVE damask)!! The kitchen belonged to Style at Home's design editor, Christine Hanlon, and although the fabric isn't actually a damask pattern (it looks more like hydrangaes to me...), it does look like damask from afar.  I've been in love with everything WHITE for awhile now (and someday hope to have my cabinets painted a shade of white...), so to see her white cabinets, marble backsplash, and damask-ish curtains, I was in L-O-V-E.  Not to mention, the hit of color on the walls with Herringbone from Sarah Richardson's Para Paint line, this kitchen makeover certainly is a Modern Bistro now... isn't it gorgeous?  It's amazing what can be done with Ikea cabinets, isn't it?

Monochromatic....White-on-White

Does anyone else love the new WHITE trend, where everything is white-on-white-on-white, etc?  I absolutely LOVE it!! I just don't know if I could go through with it in my own house...with my little black puppy that sheds and a husband who loves color.  Not to mention, I've only ever seen the white-on-white in magazines, online, or in photos....never in person.  So I would be SCARED to try it for real!!  Some people may think the white-on-white look is cold and unwelcoming...but not me! I think it looks crisp and clean, warm and inviting...like fluffy white clouds that say "join me!"  Won't you join me in this new love?

I'm contemplating making my own DIY foyer light like Jen at Made by Girl did (see here), except smaller for our place...wouldn't it be gorgeous and unique??
