Dream Home Tour (via House of Turquoise)

If you haven't already, you must check out the Dream Home Tour (see here here here and here) that Erin from House of Turquoise has been featuring the last few days (and probably again today!!).

I don't know if it's just a phase, but I am absolutely LOVING the seaside/beachy theme right now. This house (and Beach House in the City's house) are my inspirations right now...I. Want. This. Style!

Here is a sample of the house (the owner is also a brilliant photographer: Hiya Papaya).  Isn't it TO DIE FOR?!?!

Lighting....

If you know me at all, you know that I absolutely HATE our foyer light.  It's hideous.  I've been DYING to get a new light! But since we're unsure if we're staying in this house or not, my hubby refuses to replace the light. He says it's not needed, and that our current light is fine (I disagree).

I've mentioned wanting to make a light here, and I would still love to....but when? Who knows! Plus, I don't even know what all the electrical requirements are (I forwarded the email tutorial to my dad, so he knows what to get me some day....).  But then I came across this light in a flyer the other day from Bouclair Home (a new Homesense-esque place).  My hubby still claims we don't need it...but I WANT it....isn't it GORGEOUS?

Is it big enough to fill the space? I don't know....We have vaulted ceilings (probably about 12 ft tall in the foyer), but I think it would be PERFECT, don't you?

Hazel twigs

Can someone please tell me where I could find twigs like this?? A greenhouse? (anywhere cheaper?)  I have quite a few (empty) vases around the house that could really use some cool branches....

Nina, over at Stylizimo, called this a Hazel-twig...is it really from a Hazel tree? I want these twigs!!

Posterjack

I'm always on the hunt for cheap art for my house (isn't everyone?).  Since repainting my house this past weekend, we started hanging art around the house the other night.  Some of the pieces I bought awhile ago, just weren't working anywhere.  Now I need (ok, WANT more than NEED), some other pieces to fill some blank walls. But we have no budget for art. Enter: cheap art.  Ok, so cheap still has a price tag, but it's a lot more reasonable than our other options.  Maybe I can take some unique photos soon, and use Posterjack.ca.  I read about Posterjack via Style at Home Blog and it sounds wonderful.  A Canadian company (always a plus to find a local!), you can get a 24"x36" photo printed for around $24 (correction, $19 sale right now!!), and have a 8x12 photo printed & framed for around $30.  A company that can blow up your images and still look good??  I think I might be checking them out in the near future....Frames are usually an easy find (enter Ikea....)

Headboards

While visiting my friend in Lloydminster last weekend, we spoke A LOT about interiors and decorating.  She just moved into a new house and is in need of more furniture, and changing the decor and paint colors to suit their taste.  I mentioned a headboard I saw on a blog, and thought I'd share it with you as well. I'm sure most of you are familiar with Christine at Just Bella, and her guest bedroom shown here:

Using casings to frame a headboard, and wallpaper to fill it in, it adds a splash of color to the room and looks stunning, doesn't it?

I also found another DIY headboard over at Stylizimo, using an old pallet.

And what about this rustic headboard from Decorpad....

And then there's this colorful headboard, which I found through Melissa's blog, Hare Styling, from Domino online.  It may or may not be DIY, but it's gorgeous nonetheless...

And, since I don't know where else to throw this image in (and I've had it saved for a long time), check out this cool kids room

Foyer Light?

Bear with me a little while longer while I get through my crunch....I've been extremely busy (working late nights), trying to get caught up at work and haven't had much time to write any posts lately. I finally took a weekend to just relax, so I didn't have a chance to schedule anything...

But I did come across this DIY light, and thought it might be quicker (and cheaper!) than the other light I was going to make for our foyer (see here).  What do you think??

Chalkboards

As I read my daily blogs, I can't help but notice the craze for CHALKBOARDS in a home, can you? And, I'm not sure about you, but I'm DYING to put one in our house.  Nina,  from Stylizimo, has a DIY Chalkboard in her kitchen, and Kate over at Centsational Girl uses Chalkboard Paint constantly!  And I'm STILL in love with them!  My hubby thinks chalk is too messy, but did you know there's CHALKBOARD PENS!?!? (I learned of this over at Centsational Girl... haven't had a chance to check them out, google them, or even find out where I can buy them -- and I don't go to Michael's regularly)

What do you think of chalkboards? I'd love to put a long, thin one in our kitchen between the fridge and the pantry door...

Kate at Centsational Girl even covered her kids' little table with chalkboard paint...Brilliant!!!

Do you have a chalkboard in your home? Or would you put one? Make one? Buy one?  I think it's a great way to keep track of groceries needed, or where someone should be, or pass along a phone message...or just a great place to write "I Love You".....
